OVERVIEW
WHAER is for people with busy and unpredictable schedules, and it’s designed specifically for people working in the service and hospitality industries. The core function of the app is connecting individuals based on three criteria: location, common interests, and availability. Users control how much information gets shared on the app. The more they share, the more chances of meeting and connecting with someone new.

MY ROLE
I supported the team in conducting a day of discovery workshop with stakeholders. I led in whiteboarding user flows and all the other user experience efforts listed below. After user testing and focus groups, an MVP was published to the App Store in 2016.

Onboarding

The onboarding process is easy. After creating the account, simply select three or more interests and days available for the upcoming week. The current day of the week is identified by the little red dot. Complete the process and the algorithm will match people with similar interests and schedules.

There are two ways to find people: By profile, interests, and schedule or by activity.

Persona

The persona is based on the product owner and his personal life experiences. This tool was effective in keeping the design and stakeholders focused on the end user’s frustrations and needs.

Competitive analysis

Early on in the product strategy, it was important for the teams to understand how the WHAER app would be different from its competitors.

Scheduling concept (wireframe)

Calendar scheduling is a complex feature to design. This early concept allowed a person to select an activity, then the day of the week, followed by the time of day. The results showed a narrow search for people available to connect with. Ultimately, the calendar feature was shelved as a future feature and simplified for the MVP.
